  • Gangolli: Three Lost Mobile Phones Recovered via CEIR Portal, Returned to Owners

Gangolli, September 25, 2025: In a successful operation, Gangolli Police Station recovered three lost mobile phones using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and handed them back to their rightful owners.

The CEIR portal, a national platform for tracking and blocking stolen or lost devices, enabled the police to trace the mobiles within the station limits. The recovery demonstrates the effectiveness of digital tools in combating theft and aiding citizens.

    What is CEIR?

The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) is a national online platform launched by the Government of India to combat mobile phone theft and fraud. Managed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), CEIR enables tracking and blocking of lost or stolen mobile devices using their unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers. Citizens can report lost phones through the CEIR portal (ceir.gov.in) or app, ensuring swift action to block devices and prevent misuse. It also aids police in recovering phones, as seen in recent Gangolli cases where three mobiles were traced and returned. CEIR enhances security, reduces illegal phone trade, and fosters public trust in digital governance.
